How to use a voice-activated voice assistant on your iPhone or iPad

In the past, it’s been hard to get a good sense of the extent to which people really want their own voice-recognition software on their phone.
But Apple’s Siri has been getting a lot of buzz recently, and a number of researchers are taking a look at the Siri interface and seeing how it works.
One of the most exciting new research results is from Stanford researchers, who are showing that people are using their own Siri interface to perform simple tasks, like searching for directions, making purchases, and even setting alarms.
Siri can even answer questions like “how much gas does the car run on?”
The researchers are using Siri on the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, as well as on the Apple Watch, and they found that people using Siri were able to perform these tasks with relative ease.
The researchers used a machine learning approach called Neural Machine Translation to train a neural network on a set of Siri voice-over commands, which they then trained to recognize the human voice.
They also used this neural network to perform tasks like “searching for directions,” “making purchases,” and “setting alarms.”
The neural network that was trained to perform the tasks correctly was able to learn how to identify the human voices of the people speaking to it.
The goal of Neural Machine Translating was to help a voice system learn how the human brain uses language.
The results were published this week in the journal Psychological Science.
“The results suggest that humans are able to use their own human-controlled interface to use Siri to perform a variety of tasks,” says co-author Anil Agrawal, who is a Ph.
D. student at Stanford.
“We’ve been able to find a lot more general features of Siri than we expected.”
In order to do this, the researchers trained a neural net to recognize how human voices are typically used, and to use this to predict what Siri might say to a human user.
“There are a lot less restrictions in how humans are supposed to say ‘Hello,’ and the voice system is not constrained in this sense,” says Agrawar.
“But it is constrained in how it’s supposed to use those kinds of words.
So this allows us to get very precise predictions about how to say these kinds of things.”
It’s important to note that Siri can also learn what human voices use to make the speech it is hearing.
When the researchers asked Siri to tell them what words to use when they are speaking to the computer, the neural net could tell the human that the machine would say something like “Hello, Siri.”

When the neural network was trained with the words “good morning” and “hello,” it identified them as human-sounding words.
But when the researchers pressed Siri with different words, the artificial-sounding artificial-voices learned that the human-voiced words were “slightly funny” and that they were “a little sad.”
The researchers then trained the neural nets to predict which of the artificial voices would be more likely to say “good mornings,” “good days,” and so on.
The neural net correctly identified the artificial voice that said “somewhat funny” in 20 out of 40 cases, but it failed to correctly identify the voice that was more likely, in just four of the 40 cases.
“This shows that it is very powerful,” says Jason Molloy, a professor of linguistics at the University of Southern California and a professor at Stanford who studies human-computer interaction.
